CityGuide DMS - Documentation - Objects

 
"Objects" within CityGuide DMS can be defined as georeferenced points on earth's surface.

 
Each of these objects has certain properties such as a name and a position on the map. Additionally, these objects can lead to more information in the form of internet pages or email addresses.

 
CityGuide DMS supports the following object functions:
 

 
 
 
Objects - Search for Objects

 
You want to find a certain object within your CityGuide DMS application? Simply open the dialogue window for the search function.
 

On the menu bar, click on "Objects" and choose the "Search" function. You may also access this function by pressing [F2].
 

Or just enter the desired search terms directly into the object-search-field of the program interface and start the querying by pressing the [Return]-key.
 

The dialogue window for the search function will appear:
 

 
Please enter at least three characters for your search term and select the desired object from the appearing list.

 
Click on the "Select"-button to select the respective object on the program interface or click on the "Cancel"-button to close the dialogue window without executing an object selection.
 

If an object provides further information, you can access it by clicking on the "Info"-button. A new window containing the respective object information will appear.

 
 
 
Objects - Information on an Object  

 
Whenever the currently chosen object provides more information, you may access this information in a new browser window by clicking on the "Objects" entry of the menu bar and selecting the function "Information".

 
Alternatively you can make use of the corresponding command-button, or press [F5].

 
The information linked to this object may include the contents of an internet page or an email-address.

 
How to link an information (website) with an object using a different procedure will be explained in the next paragraph of this chapter.

 

 
 
Objects - Link to

 
CityGuide DMS is a bidirectional system. That means, that it is not only possible to gain access to information through the system, but also gain access to the system through information.

 
In order to create an "external" link, start by selecting any object or group of your choice. Afterwards click the "Generate Hyperlink" function located in the "Objects" tab of the menu bar. Alternatively, you can also press [F9].
 

 
Once you followed the above procedure, a new browser window will open displaying a service page. On this page you will find a preconfigured hyperlink to the selected object for each screen resolution.

 
The hyperlink can be copied and integrated into any external internet page. As soon as this link is activated by clicking on it, CityGuide DMS will be initialized in the selected screen resolution with the start position of the object of interest and the selected map. 

 
This is extremely useful for linking exact locations on internet sites like e.g. "You can find us here", or links on schedules for festivities and transport network.

Please read the user agreements of the respective CityGuide DMS license holders before trying to use this option.

 
 
 
Objects - Display Symbols

 
Every group within CityGuide DMS can have its own symbol or icon.

 
When this option is activated, all objects of the currently chosen group which are located in the map window will be displayed using their respective symbols.

 
To determine the symbols to be displayed, select the function "Show symbols" from the menu entry "Objects", or alternatively press the function key [F6].

 
Thereupon the index card "Symbols" will be activated.
 

 

Thereby you can choose between the following three symbol modes:
 

  • Manually
    You determine which symbols should be displayed.
     
  • Automatic
    Only the symbols of the currently selected group are displayed.
     
  • Deactivate
    The symbol display is deactivated.

 
By left-clicking with your mouse or pressing the [Space]-key you can fade in and fade out single symbol groups in the map window.

 
The selected symbol groups can be permanently stored by using the Settings.
 

In the activated symbol mode you have the following options:

  • Left-click with your mouse on the desired symbol. The object belonging to the symbol will be selected. If the object provides further information, you can access this information by clicking on the object on the map or alternatively pressing the function key [F5].
     

  • Double-click with your mouse on a desired symbol. This symbol will be centered on the map.
     

Note:

 
The more symbols you activate, the fewer you might probably see from the actual map.

 

 
 
Objects - Jump to a target point

 
This function determines whether you will jump to the selected object, or whether you will move there "on the fly". 

 
In case there is a slow internet connection or with time-critical areas of application, it is recommended to activate this option.

 
In order to activate this option, select "Jump to target" from the "Objects" menu tab. Alternatively, you may press the function key [F7].
